Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 1st grade to 19 students, one with special needs. Most of the kids are on free or reduced lunch. The majority are English Language Learners. I have a huge range of reading levels in my class.
This year I am facing a problem. I have 22 students who are at such different reading levels, most of them in the low range. I have a boy with special needs who is still learning sounds and I have a girl who is reading at a 4th grade level (in 1st grade)... and all in between (mostly on the low side). I am running out of "FUN" reading material that is at their level and interesting to read. I teach in an environment where the children do not have many books at home so it is my responsibility, at school, to provide them with appropriate and engaging reading material that is at their reading level.
I am asking for leveled fairy tale and folk tale readers. These readers are level k-2 and each is 16 pages. There are 15 different titles. They feature easy to read text paired with supportive illustrations, making them perfect for independent or guided reading for my low readers. There is a teacher guide that comes with the kit filled with mini-lessons, graphic organizers and mini-versions of all stories. Some of the stories are The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Hen, Stone Soup, Goldilocks, The Gingerbread Man and the Ugly Duckling.
I am also asking for the Word Families Tales Box Set which is a box that has 1 copy of a story that focuses on a word family skill. These I will use as a read aloud.
Thank you for taking the time to read this proposal. I really appreciate your consideration. You would really be helping a class full of children become better and more excited readers. These are all stories they are familiar with. They will finally get a chance to read them on their own because they are at their own level. Thank you!
