My Students

Hello! My classroom is located on the 4th floor of a century old building in Brooklyn. My students are full of energy, enthusiasm, and mumble rap lyrics. They are curious and yearn to grasp scientific concepts not only in their minds but in their hands. I remind my students every day that our classroom is a place where we are all united by our common mission as scientists to illuminate and investigate the world around us. Last year's frog dissection produced more science lovers than textbook ever has. Give them something slimy to touch, and all the sudden they are engaged and actively asking the right questions.

My Project

My students often times can get bored and complacent when activities in the classroom drone on, in an effort to make necessary curricular review more exciting, I would like to have buzzers for each table group.

Students love games.

If you turn learning into a game, you can get even the most reluctant student to participate in the competition.

In eighth grade science in New York, students take a cumulative exam which contains content from the past 3 years of science. In order to review this content and get the most engagement from students, I would like to use the 8 buzzers during class exam review, in order to make the review more competitive and fun. Opportunities to delight and entertain in the science classroom happen everyday, and I would like these materials to facilitate the best and most positive learning environment for my students.

I would also like to implement an organizational strategy using the hanging file folders, which would create ease of routine for my students. Students gain irreplaceable benefits from independence and responsibility. Using the hanging file folders will allow rotating table leaders to demonstrate their strengths and to hold themselves and their classmates accountable for the work they produce. Additionally, my students will hole punch all of their work to keep organized in their science notebooks, which will be used to track long-term inquiry based investigation activities, with 150 students, a quality hole punch is must! Please help me provide the best experience for my students this year!
