This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My transitional kindergarten class consists of the younger kindergarten students.
Our school is located in a low economic area.
One hundred percent of the students are Title I and qualify for the free federal breakfast and lunch program. Most of my students come from families who do not speak English. My transitional kindergarten students are enthusiastic about learning and always try their best. I have seen their language, social and academic skills grow every day. They have shown me that they have the potential to exceed all expectations.
My Project
My students need tactile materials to be able to express their creativity. I will incorporate these materials into my academic day so that students can experience learning in different ways. Children will use the playdough with numbers, letter cookie cutters and learning mats. The big box of crayons will give students a wider choice of colors to express themselves when coloring pictures. The sand is a wonderful tactile material that will provide children with many exploration opportunities. Sand can be used to teach new math vocabulary and will help in their understanding of new concepts such as amount, weight and size. The messy mats will provide a surface to keep materials self contained. All these materials will inspire children to explore, learn and be creative. Please support my classroom with this project.
