Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a high poverty and high mobility school, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they show up with smiles on their faces and are ready to learn.
I work in a Title I school in Florida where 100% of our beautiful students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My hope is to provide these students with experiences, inside and outside of the classroom, that help them learn about tolerance, courage, and social responsibility. We have many students attending our school who were displaced by the recent hurricanes in the Islands and Puerto Rico.
My Project
We have many students entering our Orlando classrooms who have been displaced due to Hurricanes Maria and Irma. These students are new to the English language, and we need materials to support their learning.
Learning English should be fun!
This project contains materials that will make this process enjoyable--partner plays, cards games, and short, high interest passages with high frequency vocabulary and complex comprehension questions. These materials will be used during small group time to assist with acquiring our language and building reading fluency with my ESL (English as a Second Language) students. They playful nature of these educational games will benefit the students immensely!
