My students need bean bag chairs, comfy floor seats, WOBBLE chairs and portable lap desks. All these items will allow them the flexibility to work anywhere in our room.
My third-grade students are curious, energetic, and fun-loving learners ready to take on the world. They love to collaborate and work together while tackling new challenges.
I work with a wide variety of students with multiple talents and abilities that are waiting to be discovered.
I work with students with learning disabilites as well as English Language Learners. They come from diverse backgrounds and speak multiple languages. I applied for this project because they deserve a warm, innovate classroom that helps them become their best self.
My Project
Flexible seating will help me better incorporate 21-century learning goals into my classroom. Our school was built 68 years ago and desperately needs a physical space makeover. I am looking to create a happy, relaxing, and engaging workspace for my students to collaborate as a team. My main goal is to provide more seating options away from solid surfaces. I would like to give my students comfortable seating choices on our rug and at small cozy corner tables.
Current research shows that flexible seating provides many health and educational benefits to children.
It helps students burn more calories, increases motivation, and improves student behavior. I picked out 4 movable seating choices that will allow my students to sit comfortably on the floor. I also am looking for two portable laptop desks that will increase core strength and provide better posture for those using a Chromebook on the floor. These items will make a difference in my students learning by providing them with a motor break and a quieter workspace. This structural shift in my classroom better fits my teaching philosophy and empowers my students by providing multiple choices to engage in our classroom activities.
