Help me give my students an exciting Speech therapy experience to include board games, access to fun Speech apps & AAC using the Speech iPad and rewarding snacks as a reward for their hard work towards their goals.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Speech therapy is best delivered and received through play therapy and the use of the most up to date techniques. Effective Speech therapy can be delivered through a myriad of activities but it is best received using the most popular attention getting items for students today. I have always enjoyed introducing a speech objective to a student. After practicing this objective over the course of a few visits, allowing the student to participate in a fun game that will provide them with the opportunity to merge the objective with the game to hopefully drive home and encourage the new speech behavior or remind them of the objective at hand.
Speech should be fun and enjoyable for both the therapist and the student as well as seen as an extension and reinforcement of the classroom lessons.
Students love to experience how their work towards their goals bring about a new found love for communication. It is the expectation of my students that Speech is always learning fun via a board game, conversation topics and lastly through the use of electronics. Having access to technology to provide effective Speech therapy empowers the student to feel confident in communicating and participating in Speech. The use of a tablet or iPad isn’t all bad ii there are educational apps installed and when the students need a mental break they should be allowed to play educational games.
