This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a low-income, high-mobility school that is Title One. This means all of our children receive free breakfast and lunch during the school day. We have a diverse population and serve children and families from many different cultures.
The students at our school are sweet and crave positive interactions and for someone to show a genuine interest in them.
They are eager to learn new things and love to share what they have learned with others. These students need positive role models in their lives to introduce them to the wonders of the world around them.
My Project
Everyday when my students come to class, we try to make it a contest to show who can eat the best tasting meal. Unfortunately, many times, my little learners tell me that they have not eaten.
It is really hard to focus on learning when your tummy is growling.
Because we serve a full Title One program at our school, many of our students are receiving free breakfast or lunch during the school day but because of the pandemic, their families have nothing or very little to eat at home. Help me help them! Giving my students quick and healthy snacks to eat like Mac and Cheese, Granola Bars, and Fruit Cups, will help them get proper nutrition throughout the day, as well as help them to focus on the day's academic tasks instead of their empty bellies. These items will also be bagged up to give students snack packs to eat over the weekend.
