Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with a targeted group of “at promise” minority students to provide support, guidance, resources, and tutorials to ensure they pass all of their classes to be eligible to attend a university. Most of my students are creative scholars that aspire to go into the field of art or engineering. They belong to pathways, or academies, with classes that focus on the arts, architecture, manufacturing, construction, and engineering.
My students CAN do hard things; they just don’t know it…YET.
Students need learning opportunities that are challenging while also being engaging and meaningful. With these kits, I plan to group students into teams to build a car that will run on solar power. We will then hold a race with the cars they build. The gift cards will be awarded as prizes.
Through this experience I hope to foster collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking and perseverance which are all important skills to have, not only in school, but in the real world as well.
