Help me give my students materials to enhance our S.T.E.M. curriculum and foster collaboration. We would like to use the LEGOs to build projects related to our simple machines, early pioneers, and makerspace units.

My Students

Our second graders live in a small mountain community in Colorado called Evergreen. The students are very sweet, inquisitive, and caring. Our school is a free public charter school that uses the Core Knowledge Curriculum.

Our class is made up of a variety of learning styles, abilities, interests, and learning disabilites which require many accomodations and enrichments to provide an engaging learning environment for all children.

To better meet the variety of learning styles, we would like to enrich our S.T.E.M. program with some building materials that can be used across the curriculum.

My Project

These materials will engage and excite our students when learning about simple machines, early pioneers, and other makerspace projects. They will also help foster creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Students will have the opportunity to create simple machines, the water cycle, pioneer homes, and an insect with the legos.

In addition, these materials will help improve fine motor skills, problem-solving skills, and support the higher level thinking skills.

Students will be encouraged to think outside of the box to demonstrate their learning. The unique combination of the LEGOs and engaging, standards-based projects will result in each students’ confidence to ask questions, define problems and design their own solutions by putting STEM learning directly in their hands.
