My Students

I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district. I have 20 students in my Kindergarten class. They love to sing, dance, and make art. Anything that's creative and let's them express themselves is a big hit with them. All my students receive free breakfast and lunch due to their low socioeconomic status. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of my students are being raised in single income households by a single parent. These things may prevent them from getting ahead and may not give them the "typical" opportunities and experiences in life. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My Project

My students love to learn through play. These STEM activities are great for kids. These activities will allow them to apply the skills they are learning in class. They will also get social interaction through these learning activities. The WikiStix will give them materials they can manipulate to practice making their letters and numbers. The Fairytale STEM bins allow students to work with a partner and use their imagination to build and retell familiar stories.

Kindergarten students learn best through hands on activities, play, and exploration.

I chose these activities because they are hands-on, and require the students to use the skills they are learning in class. The activities also come with hands on materials that allow them to use their creativity to accomplish the needed task.
