I teach at a preschool where there are 4 awesome pre-k classrooms that work together. The combination provides a strong sense of community where teachers know all of the children and families. We see most parents several times a week for drop-off and pick-up. My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
My project is for my students to learn through play. As a first year teacher, I have already been given so much from my school and families. Working with young children, I realized they learn best with hands-on and engaging activities. My goal is to create a STEAM center for my pre-k classroom. The skills children learn when engaging with STEAM concepts in preschool are transferable and useful across many aspects of their lives. For example, process skills, which include making observations, hypothesizing and critical thinking, are basic skills for math and science but are also valuable skills for learning any subject!
