My Project
The items that I am requesting are going to be used at STEAM bins in the morning for a soft start to our day. When my 2nd graders come in the classroom we have breakfast for them, if they do not want breakfast, I give them the option of a STEAM bin. These bins are used to allow student to interact, talk, and explore in a safe space.
My goal is for students to walk in and know that they are going to get to start off with a hands on activity and a chance to talk with their friends.
Students need this time to learn how to communicate and work together. This is also a time where they can learn to work through conflict and how to share.
My student come from a low socioeconomic background. Many have single parent homes and are often taking care of younger kids. They often use iPads and TV to watch the kids. I want to get the kids off the screen and working hands on and talking with each other first thing when they arrive.
