This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class consists of 17 amazing second-grade students. My kids are bright, funny, and excited about school. My students are eager to learn, but a lot of them face financial and cultural challenges. Over half of them are learning English as a second language. They come from families who often struggle just to provide the bare essentials of food and housing. Books, educational toys, and experiences are luxuries that my students cannot afford. These children never let challenges get them down. They keep an upbeat, can-do attitude despite these trials.
My Project
My students will use these materials as early finishers, calm down centers, or as brain breaks. If students finish early, there is always a chance that they could begin disrupting others who are still working. They will be able to come and grab a STEAM box that they can use to create animals, toys, or anything their brains can think of!
My students love to build things and use their creative imaginations and share their work with a friend.
This can bring a smile to some faces as I have a few students who get overwhelmed with the amount of work that they have to do. These boxes can help students calm their minds and focus on one part at a time. Students will also use these boxes during indoor recess, or during a brain break where they are able to refocus their brain on the tasks at hand.
