Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Developmental kindergarten is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of our students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a paintbrush. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games, and boogie to a sweet tune. Our classrooms are located in Springfield, MA. We have a diverse population of students including general education, English language learners and special education students. We are working towards giving them a more developmentally appropriate experience!
My Project
Kindergarten is a great time to introduce kids to the magic of science! Kindergarten students are naturally curious, which makes science an ideal subject for them. Science allows students to explore their world and discover new things. It is also an active subject, containing activities such as hands-on activities and experiments. This makes science well-suited to active younger children. Science is an important part of the foundation for education for all children! The products that I have selected will provide my students with hands-on center activities will excite, and provide exploration, investigation and hopefully inspire and develop future young scientists. I would love to use these materials during our free choice center time when students will be able to choose a center to go to and learn. I would love to have these materials so that I could model the center and teach the student how to play within that center. The literacy materials will help bring life to the centers and a sense of fun and creativity. For example, I would teach the story book throughout the week and have the students answer questions and discuss the parts of the text with a partner. They would be able to use that knowledge from a week long study of the text to then be able to use learning kits and center materials to build, dramatize or play in free choice centers.
