My students need materials like Legos, magnetic building blocks, and brain flakes, along with other manipulatives to help make science a more hands-on experience.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am lucky enough to be teaching in the district I graduated from.
I had the best experience here and now I want to give my students the same. Our district is unique in how culturally diverse we are. The same goes for my class. I have a wide array of students in my first grade class. I have students with varying academic abilities and students who come from a multitude of diverse backgrounds. What unites my class is their love of learning and respect for each other. I am constantly impressed by what “bucket fillers” my students are.
My Project
STEAM stand for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. The materials will be used to create STEAM boxes. I believe that students learn best when they are able to use hands on activities that allow them to truly engage with what they are learning. The STEAM boxes that we create will be full of many different types of building materials that will allow the students to create unique and creative structures. The Lego, building block bars, brain flakes, and magnetic building blocks will allow my students to create in a more structured environment while the other materials like popsicle sticks, straws, toothpicks, styrofoam balls, etc. will give my students opportunity to create more freely. Through the use of these boxes students will learn to be creative, to persevere, and problem solve, as well as working collaboratively. The STEAM boxes will also help our class to be organized and get started creating right away.
