My Students

"Full STEAM ahead!" Our district is a STEM district working on the implementation of Innovation Teams at the elementary level for the coming school year. This class of Special Education Pre-K students is moving right along with the district's initiatives and planning a STEAM classroom (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and the Arts). We need YOUR help with the bones of the classroom!!!

The vision for our STEAM classroom includes a place to create projects with building opportunities, to learn from design challenges, to problem solve our way to better strategies and to create visions from our imagination and experiences.

The students in this class enjoy getting messy and exploring our world.

My Project

Having the shelving for our block center and the large floor blocks will allow the students to focus a larger area of space for engineering and architecture planning and building. A shelf for organizing their materials will allow them to plan ahead, discuss their inventory and possibilities and problem solve. A shelf will also add time to the creative process. The large floor blocks will allow the children to move throughout their creations, shifting and changing as strategies and ideas morph and grow.

Having an art easel that can accommodate four children at a time will allow collaborative planning for the building process and space for their aesthetic ideas.

A mobile science center can open up the opportunity for a life sciences area for growing small plants, collecting and studying bugs and caring for a class pet.
