Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are each uniquely intelligent in their own way. They are curious when it comes to the learning topics and are always analyzing and making connections with the material. My students are always two steps ahead of me. They are eager to learn.
My students are tomorrow's leaders.
They love to read and constantly need to be moving; they can't sit still. They are thinkers and are constantly asking questions. They want to know it all. They are always trying their best and you can see they enjoy being in school.
My Project
My students are a creative bunch and constantly need to be busy. I feel that these STEAM bins will help develop their "thinking out of the box" thought processes. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. These bins are an ideal hands-on solution for early finishers, morning work, centers, fine motor practice, indoor recess, or positive reinforcement of behavior.
My goal is to build on my students' creativeness with these STEAM bins.
These STEAM bins will have STEAM challenges for them to create.
Each STEAM task will have: task cards with writing prompts about what they built, plan sheets where they can draw their structure, a task card to build certain things with the materials from the pencil box. Task cards might ask student to build a tent, tower, box, a house, rocket or plane using only the materials from the bin. Each pencil box is filled with different materials, for example: colorful pipe cleaners, LEGO bricks, Play-Doh, magnetic blocks, mini plastic cups and geometric tiles. These materials will help my students to think outside of the box. We are used to building and completing projects with instructions, these bins are instruction free which helps each student to create on their own. My goal to show how we all think differently and how we can all create the same thing in a different way. Our school is slowly transitioning into a STEAM school and I would like to expose my students to these challenges and activities early on.
