Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a very enthusiastic group from all over the world. They enjoy being challenged and finding answers to their many questions. Sadly, most come from struggling families that have little time or energy to spend with their children. They live in a high-crime, gang infested area. Journal entries and discussions have many times brought me to tears. School for them is a safe haven. I believe in giving them as many opportunities I can to expand their world and grow.
My Project
Our curriculum is moving towards 21st Century skills that are missing in the traditional curriculum. Children need to learn problem solving and engineering to work on real-world problems.
We are requesting building sets that will bring the new science standards to life.
The Windmill learning lab will accompany my lesson on alternative energy sources. Landforms are new to second grade. The Watercolor Set we are requesting will help my students create their own landform map, and the Landform Matchup will make a lively learning center. The Simple Machines Activity Lab will give my students the hands-on experience they need to understand the simple mechanics of pulleys, levers and gears.
These supplies and games will make learning fun, which motivates more learning and creativity.
