Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are a very boisterous, creative, loving group of 10 year olds. From the time I walked into that classroom in November of last year (2.5 months into the school year) I knew that they needed someone who genuinely cared about them, believed in them, and pushed them to be their very best. As it turned out, not only did I fall in love with them, they fell in love with school again. Due to this, I requested that I teach them again for the 2016/17 school year. Thankfully, my request was granted.

My students all receive free breakfast and lunch every day, and I also provide them with snacks to take home when that need is there.

When a child's basic needs are met, they have a better chance for success, children cannot learn when they are hungry.

I have always believed that the more you expect from a child, the more you will get. When I raised the bar, they met the challenge. This year I am seeing academic growth like I have never seen! I have students who have made 1.5 YEARS growth in 3 months time! When the bar is high, my students will fly!

My Project

STEAM education is an integral part of our students' learning. As educators, it is our duty to implement as much science, technology, engineering, art, and math as possible. These materials would enable me to enhance the STEAM Friday activities that I am currently using within my classroom.

The future is science, and students must be exposed to as much science as we can give them, that is why I have implemented STEAM Fridays.

On STEAM Fridays, the students are given a predetermined task that they must complete in a cooperative group. These kits will allow me to expose my students to more scientific experiments every week that are aligned to the Core Standards and have all the materials necessary to complete the tasks.
