This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am lucky enough to work at a school that has some amazing students and an amazing staff who work very hard to make sure that we give our students everything we can. Unfortunately, our students are disadvantaged due to the low socio-economics of the neighborhood they come from and that surrounds our school. Families just don't have the means to support the school and their children in terms of helping to provide the things they need for their education. As a teacher, I'm constantly having to dip into my own wallet to provide students with even the basics (binders, folders, pencils, erasers, etc.) and I've even provided clothes, shoes, or a coat for a child.
These students deserve the best!
These students know that they are valued at our school and in my classroom. I tell them all the time that they are "my kids" and that I love each of them and that each of them are important to me. I want to see each of my students succeed and to stretch themselves to grow.
My Project
My students would love the opportunity to have a creation station where they can use Lego products to build, create, and problem solve through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) applications. I want to be able to encourage their creativity while they problem solve individually, with a partner, or in teams.
By giving my students the opportunity to use these materials to solve problems, they will learn to plan, create, test, and evaluate their creations.
Lego products will bring a high level of engagement from all students in my classroom! I anticipate that the students will be excited about the opportunity to create. Not only will they create, but they will also have opportunities to present and explain their creations to their classmates, who can offer feedback, suggestions, and critiques.
