Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the honor of being the teacher to 36 of the most amazing and inquisitive preschoolers. Ours is a high poverty area of Los Angeles and all of my little students qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. But that doesn't stifle their curiosity and wonder for the world around them. It is my goal to provide these little people with a wonderful start to their educational journey. Like Dr. Suess says..."A person's a person, no matter how small...."
My Project
The newest buzz word in education these days is STEAM...a preschooler's unlimited imagination, boundless energy, natural inquisitiveness and fearlessness in tackling new challenges is the perfect combination for STEAM lessons.
One might think that preschoolers are just too young to grasp Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math in their learning (STEAM).
Well I am here to tell you that preschool is the perfect launching grade to introduce these concepts.
I want to provide the materials my preschoolers need to help foster all of their imagination. The magnetic building sets will allow them to begin to explore their skills in math as they analyze how many pieces they will need to build using the magnetic blocks. Their engineering curiosity will be challenged as they work together to construct gravity solid structures. Their artistic creativity will be fostered as they come up with amazing creations that will be limited only by their imagination. And of course their technological skills will be explored as they put together and take apart structures to see how the mechanical world around them functions.
So many concepts can be mastered just by using simple magnetic blocks and structures.
