My Students

Walk into our third grade co-taught classroom and you will see so many different things. A range of abilities, including special needs, gifted needs and everything in between work together with an amazing team of teachers to create our classroom family.

Our classroom operates on a system of many different activities and projects to meet the varying diverse needs of our kids.

You could easily see different groups of students working with each other or an adult, students on computers, or individual projects at any given time. Our main goal as an educational team is to create a safe, happy environment for all who enter our classroom.

My Project

These resources will be used to give families, who want to be involved in the classroom and their child's education, the opportunity to get involved in a way that is easy, fun, and engaging. Family members will be asked to sign up for one day a month to lead the STEAM activity center, where they will get to see and work with their child in the classroom. The family who signs up gets to choose the activity they want and borrow it for one week to get prepared to lead the activity with their child. Then, the child and their parent get to work together teaching students how to play the game or handle the activity.

This project is a lot like the books-to-movie idea, in that families get to "check out" resources and bring them home.

In this case, families and students may have poor access to supplies to complete a project, or even listen to an audiobook or watch a movie. This strategy of getting a game/activity to use and learn with for a week allows for being understanding of socioeconomic limitations. Parents are also very interested in coming into the classroom at this grade level, and allowing the families to be the "content experts" for a day builds student confidence in a holistic way. Students will even get to wear a special science lab coat on the day they are the expert to increase engagement and buy-in!
