Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a group of hard working, inquisitive second graders in rural North Carolina. Our school is considered a high poverty school and most of my students are ELL learners, but those things do not define us!
In our class we enjoy discovering new books, solving challenging problems and letting our voices be heard!
My goals for my students include academic goals, but also character goals. I tell my students daily "be amazing, be kind!" It is important that I instill in my students the desire to learn and also the desire to make the world a better place by spreading kindness.
My Project
Every afternoon we have a break and a snack to recharge our bodies. We need fuel to help us stay focused and engaged until to end of the school day.
Unfortunately, most of my students are not able to bring snacks from home.
This means that my students are on an uneven playing field, with some having full bellies and others having rumbling tummies. I would like for EVERY student to have a snack each day so that we can focus on content and not hunger. My students and I are requesting pretzels, peanut butter crackers, granola bars, and graham crackers!
We also need some basic cleaning supplies for our classroom. Soaps and wipes are items that we use every day to keep our hands and surfaces germ-free. A hands-free soap dispenser would help us prevent the spread of germs, glue, and paint!
