Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Providing sensory calming materials has become an integral part of primary-age classrooms. Having sensory bins, sand, and calming corners can make a huge difference in a child being able to reset before joining their classmates in academic lessons. Providing easy access to books in the classroom is another opportunity for students to feel connected and provide a sense of calm for children.

Sensory materials will create a calming, connected space for students to regroup as needed so that they are ready for academic success.

Students need to feel connected and regulated to access the academic lessons in every classroom. By having this sense of calm, students can positively connect with their peers as well.

The sensory hideaway is a way for students to have personal space while still in the containment of the classroom. The sensory hideaway provides accessible sensory options within a student sized space.

The sand is another option for calming, sensory activities. Students can use the sand in a variety of ways; playing with one another, creative play and a sensory area. The sand lid will keep the sand dry in alternate weather.

Finally, the bookcase is a way to display books so that students have easy access to reading material. The bookcase will be kept near the sensory hideaway so that kids can utilize the books as needed.

All of these materials will greatly enhance the learning environment in Kindergarten. Students' emotional learning is as important as their academic growth. Kindergarten students will be greatly impacted from the generosity of these donations.
