Help me give my students the opportunity to find themselves in books that they enjoy! My students are on varying reading levels. Reading high interest books will help grow their love for reading and comprehension skills.

My Students
I love my fourth graders! They come to school fighting such tough battles, and yet they are still full of so much personality. I teach in a culturally and socio-economically diverse area, with many of my students being English Language Learners. Most of these students come from homes where a guardian has to work multiple jobs to provide basic needs. Because of that, I find myself trying to make up for supports that their adults aren't always able to provide. While they may not be exposed to academic activities, or "home" field trips, and extracurricular activities, I want them to learn and experience as much as they can while in my classroom.
My Project
Most of my students don't have their own set of books to read at home. By creating a classroom library, I hope to create a love of reading. Reading will help teach them more about the world, while increasing their fluency and comprehension skills. Right now, my library only has a few high interest books that the students share. I would love to have all of my students reading a book that they enjoy! I also plan to do read-alouds with books that they wouldn't read on their own, to expand their horizons and have meaningful class discussions. There are so many valuable life lessons taught through books!
