This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine arriving at school on time and ready to learn after not eating since yesterday when school ended, completing your homework after caring for and putting your younger siblings to bed, and then being woken up as a parent kicks off their shoes when they return home from a second job. Or doing all of the above because you are from a single parent home.

Imagine being new to our country, possibly with no immediate family, and planning to be the first in their families to graduate high school.

This describes my kids. Yet, my students want to come to school. They want to make a better life for themselves and their families.

My Project

Between allergy season now and cold season fast approaching, my students will be entering my classroom with sniffly noses. The Kleenex and hand sanitizer will help keep my students in class and not home sick. Since my classroom faces the basketball courts, I frequently have students come in and ask for bandaids. My supply is dwindling quickly. As the year progresses, my whiteboards will lose their shine and the pile of binder paper will decrease. These supplies will help support my students.

These basic needs materials and classroom supplies will support my students on attending class daily and having the necessary materials to succeed in our diverse classroom.

My students come from all walks of life and just as many countries. Some even arrived just a few weeks ago.
