My Students
I work at a school district that serves a student community that is 90% Native American. They are respectful, motivated, and eager to learn. Due to the rise in Covid cases within our community, our school has moved to 100% virtual learning. In our classroom, my students feel heard, respected and safe.
My Project
Please help us fill our shelves with more diverse titles. For students to excel at reading, they need lots of books to choose from. We are starting to gradually add to our classroom collection and the students love when they find a book that speaks to them that they can relate to. They need books from different genres and different reading levels. Providing diverse characters of many races and ethnic backgrounds are the key in helping the students gain a feeling of empathy and compassion for those who may not look, dress, speak, or believe the same. Help me give my students choices so they can find books that interest them and keep them from becoming reluctant readers. These books will be added to my classroom for students to read.
