Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In my special education classroom, located in a low-income community, meeting students' basic needs is just as important as meeting academic goals. Many of my students come to school hungry or without access to nutritious food throughout the day. This can make it extremely difficult for them to focus, self-regulate, or engage meaningfully in learning activities.
By providing a supply of healthy snacks and small treats, I aim to support both their physical and emotional well-being.
These snacks will serve as midday fuel, helping students stay energized and attentive. They will also be used as part of a positive reinforcement system to encourage participation, celebrate milestones, and support behavior goals tailored to each student's needs.
Whether it's a granola bar to help a student make it through math or a fruit snack to reward a hard-earned breakthrough, these small gestures go a long way in building trust, motivation, and a nurturing learning environment.
