Dear Donor,
Our students walk through the doors each morning full of ideas, questions, and dreams.
As teachers and secretaries, we see how hard they work; how much they give of themselves, day after day, to grow into scholars, artists, scientists, and citizens.
We’re asking for your support in funding two microwaves for our school: one for classroom use and one for supervised student access. What may seem like a simple appliance can make a meaningful difference in our students’ academic and personal experience.
Our students spend long hours at school. Their days are filled with rehearsals, performances, science labs, reading groups, and creative projects that stretch their minds and hearts. While lunch is provided, it often isn’t enough to fuel the entire day. Many students bring snacks or small meals from home; foods that require heating. Without a microwave, they’re left eating cold meals or going without. A warm snack helps them recharge and stay focused so they can continue to show up as their best selves.
We’ll also use the microwave for classroom incentives, like movie days, where students can enjoy popcorn or warm treats as a reward for their hard work; another way to build joy and belonging in our learning spaces.
In the classroom, the need is just as important. At Foulois, science and arts-based learning is hands-on and deeply engaging. Students experiment with thermal energy, create culinary-inspired art, and explore how heat transforms matter. But without a microwave, we can’t safely or effectively support these experiences. A microwave would unlock real-world learning they can see, touch, and taste.
Two microwaves. That’s all we’re asking. But what they’ll unlock; creativity, comfort, deeper learning, and a sense of care; is immeasurable.
