Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The purpose of this fundraiser is to provide essential resources for high school students with learning disabilities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Your donations purchase healthy snacks, hygiene items, and stim toys—critical components that support both physical and emotional well-being, which are vital for effective learning.
When disadvantaged students are well-fed, comfortable and at ease, they can fully access the same educational resources as their peers.
Students with learning disabilities and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds often face additional barriers to academic success. These barriers can include inadequate access to nutritious food, poor hygiene supplies, and a lack of supportive tools to help manage sensory needs. These factors can significantly impact their concentration, self-esteem, and overall academic performance.
This campaign aims to provide:
- Vital hygiene items such as hair and tooth brushes, menstrual support and deodorant
- Healthy snacks, including trail mix, instant soups, applesauce and granola bars
- Stim toys and comfort items like chewable jewelry, hot tea and cocoa, fidgets and plushies
My students often come to me with the idea that they are meant to be disadvantaged, that they deserve their situations due to supposed bad behavior, social stigma around disabilities and racial background, or because improving things seems impossible. There are times when all it takes to turn someone's bad day around is a snack and a chance to clean themselves up. Your donations help bring a little light and comfort into my students' lives, and we thank you.
