Fueling Futures: Nourishing Hungry Minds in Middle School

Help me give my students a nourishing start to fuel their brains throughout the day and to send home to keep them going through out the weekend!

My Project

Like many kiddos in middle school, my kids are picky about what they eat. Many of them are coming to school having not eaten since lunch was served the day before. My school does serve breakfast. But think back to your cafeteria? Times have changed. Food is not being cooked and prepared fresh and made to look appealing. My kids are not eating breakfast. Which leads to a problem?

The items in the project were specifically chosen to help get my kids some brain fuel to start the day on the right foot!

I cannot expect them to learn when their stomachs are empty. They will not be focused on what I need them to focus on if they are hungry.

I plan to use these items in my cart to supplement the breakfast provided at school. I also plan to use these for students who arrive late and did not receive a breakfast. For those in need of breakfast and food over the weekend, I will send some home to get the through.

I wish I could give my kids everything that I had growing up. Providing them with breakfast is a place to start. They deserve it. They are a rough bunch on the outside and by the looks of them. But not many people get to see what I see. They don't see the big guy who is considered a bully stand up for the new, smaller kid in the building when someone is picking on him. They don't see the helpfulness and the worry they have when their teacher isn't there. I have good kids...they are just often misunderstood.
