My Students
Everyday my students and their peers flock to the cafeteria before school for a free breakfast. Later we file up to the cafeteria for free lunch. Some come without jackets or in shoes that don't quite fit. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many face amazing challenges including poverty, broken families and lack of resources at home. This could cause apathy, anger and lack of effort.
But in our room, there are no excuses.
Despite everything, my students are persistent and curious. They ask questions constantly. They thrive with teamwork, movement and interactive lessons. They are constantly growing into increasingly amazing people.
My Project
Our world is changing fast; our students are too! I want my students to be innovative, creative thinkers, not just quiet, cooperative robots. Research already shows us that kids need to move to learn. Experience shows me that they need to have ergonomic, comfortable, varied seating options to do their best learning. Letting students choose a seat where they know they can be successful in learning, gives them agency over their learning. It lets them develop meta-cognition and self-efficacy. Why should I spend my time teaching kids to sit, when I want to be teaching them to learn?
