My Project

My fifth graders are at a pivotal point in their reading journey. They are discovering who they are and how they connect to the world around them. To truly engage them, they need high-interest books that not only capture their attention, but also reflect the rich diversity of experiences, cultures, and identities in our world.

This project will provide engaging, age-appropriate books—graphic novels, adventure stories, realistic fiction, sports stories, mysteries, and high-interest nonfiction—featuring diverse characters and authors from a wide range of backgrounds.

When students see themselves represented in books, they feel valued and understood. When they read about lives different from their own, they build empathy and broaden their perspectives.

By expanding our classroom library with inclusive, high-interest titles at a variety of reading levels, I can ensure every student finds a book that excites them and affirms them. These books will support independent reading and allow for meaningful discussions that celebrate both individuality and community.
