Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Knowledge will bring you the opportunity to make a difference."(Claire Fagin).
I believe that if students are provided with the proper "STEM" (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) tools to fuel their knowledge and passion for learning, they can grow to make a difference in the world.
My first grade students are a fun, creative, and diverse community of learners who all share a common need for educational success.
As their teacher, it is my job to help ensure their success. As society seems to be shifting towards a culture that requires students to be successful in all four areas of "STEM," my school continues to strongly support individual student success in these areas. My school has a "Ready to Learn" philosophy with a goal to help all students achieve academic success. I support this goal for student learning both school wide and more importantly in my own classroom. My students are eager to learn. They enjoy using early engineering resources, such as building blocks and "Tinker Toys" to design and create new things. They love to use technology as a resource for learning and have become excited about doing science experiments in the classroom. They enjoy doing "hands on" math activities and would benefit from having "STEM" resources in our classroom.
My Project
Having these resources in my classroom will provide the additional support my students need in order to understand important math and science concepts. As a first year teacher I am in need of these resources for my classroom. I will be able to use these the resources for added visual and "hands on" support while teaching both math and science in the classroom. I will be able to use these resources to help my students build an early foundation of addition, subtraction, and place value understanding. Using erasable writing boards, my students will be able to practice drawing, writing, and solving a variety of math story problems. In addition, counter chips and ten frames will be used to help my students with their number sense and counting skills. The "Learning Science Library K-3," will provide my students with several leveled books that cover a variety of science topics. The library of books will help to provide additional interest and understanding of multiple science topics.
Donations to this project will allow me to teach math and science to my students without having to borrow resources from other classrooms.
This project will provide my students with the additional support they need in the areas of math and science. The resources from this project will help build a successful foundation for each of my students in both of these areas. This will help to ensure the continued academic success for my students in future years to come.
