I have a richly diverse and multicultural class. They come from many ethnic groups, levels of parental education, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Sometimes, it is the child from the most challenging environment that surprises me the most.
My classroom is composed of very creative, inquisitive students.
Something that they all share is a love of learning and a desire to be able to dig deeper and find answers to their questions. They love challenges and problem solving. They are so eager to learn and demonstrate what they are thinking and feeling.
My Project
We have access to 8 VEX robotic kits and 12 LEGO Mindstorms kits to use within our classroom. Now what we need is a high functioning laptop to help with the planning and coding of our robots.
Students can program their robots to run mazes and solve real world problems.
One problem our robots are faced with might be removal of radioactive waste from a contaminated site. Our full class would be able to log in as teams to upload software which controls the motors and sensors to maneuver through a maze or to locate a target. Students would also create presentations to share with each other in class to communicate their learning.
