This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I teach a classroom full of happy, eager-to-learn, curious, sweet first graders whom I like to call my “First Grade Scholars”. They are so loving and peaceful. They like to laugh, play, and have fun while learning. They are learning how to become problem solvers and they are learning to adapt.
Our school is considered a low-income school where 63% of students receive free or reduced-price meals.
Sadly, many of the students in our district are living in generational poverty, and I know that a good educational foundation will give them a chance to become productive citizens. I have implemented Financial Literacy lessons to help teach them many lifelong skills. I would now like to offer them many different options during our learning.
My Project
The snacks that I am requesting will help my students tackle not only hunger but also learning and fun. Not only will the snacks be used during snack time but they will also be available to purchase in our classroom store. Students earn income through our classroom economy. Financial Literacy has become a great tool in our classroom. Students earn income based on their classroom jobs as well as good behavior. They are learning to spend and save their earnings. Participating in this experience daily gives the students a sense of pride, and places a level of responsibility on their shoulders as they are aware that they can earn, spend, and save.
