This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach at a Title 1 school in Tampa, FL. Over 95% of our students live in poverty. We have amazing kids and families in our community, and our students love coming to school and learning.
Most of our students, staff, and their families lost all their food, and some lost their homes due to the devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
We are dealing with many more families that are now food insecure and homeless. I am asking for cereal bars, canned meats, and other items to help fill the near-empty shelves in our food pantry. Our pantry serves our students and community members, regardless of whether they have students at our school. Many of the items I chose can be easily consumed without having to cook or heat them.
