I teach English language development to an amazing group of students who speak other languages, including many refugee and immigrant students. Many of them had severely interrupted schooling before they got here, so they are not only learning English and all of their school subjects in English, but they are also learning all other academic skills and subjects. They are eager to learn and are deeply appreciative of the opportunities they have here at our school. My goal is to provide them with every opportunity and resource that they need to be successful in school and in life.
My Project
Many of my students come from low-income immigrant families and arrive at school hungry. I want to provide them with food to fuel their brains. Noodle soup and chips are very popular among my students and mean that kids have access to a quick meal or a snack to keep them going.
As new students in the United States' school system and English Language Learners, my students need support with organizing their time and work.
We will use planners in the new year to keep track of assignments across all eight classes of their high school loads. Durable folders will allow students to organize their assignments and show off the work they are most proud of!
