Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work at a Title I school. Ninety-three percent of the students at our school are high needs, compared with a state average of 48%, and 80% of our students are economically disadvantaged, compared with a state average of 32%.

We have an extended school day to help address some of the high needs.

My fourth graders are growing. Lunch is at 10:40 am. By the afternoon their growing bodies are always distracted because they need a snack. They love Strawberry Nutri-Grain bars, and on Fridays, Welch's as a treat. We have had goldfish in the past, which are also popular, and this round I think they will like the pretzels as well. The snack helpers in particular take their job very seriously- proudly asking their classmates if they would prefer a breakfast bar or Goldfish. It is a nice community-building moment that makes the classroom feel more familial.

If I ever skip snack, they remind me with booming voices. Thank you for supporting this important time in their young lives.
