it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are energetic, curious learners who thrive when language learning is paired with hands-on experiences. Many of them come from diverse backgrounds and are eager to connect classroom lessons with real-world interests. One thing that unites them? A shared love for soccer!
This project brings the world’s most popular sport—fútbol—into our Spanish classroom!
Through soccer-themed lessons, vocabulary, and physical activities, students will not only develop Spanish language skills, but also build teamwork, cultural awareness, and confidence.
I’m requesting soccer equipment such as balls, cones and portable goals, along with visual aids to help make the learning engaging and immersive. During these lessons, students will speak in Spanish as they play, using terms for positions, movements, strategies, and sportsmanship—all in the target language. For example, they’ll learn to give and follow commands (“¡Pásala!” “¡Corre!”), describe actions (“Estoy corriendo.”), and even talk about international teams and tournaments. to help make the learning engaging and immersive.
Fútbol is a natural gateway into Latin American and Spanish culture—and for many students, it’s also incredibly motivating. This project helps students make meaningful connections between language and culture while engaging in physical activity. Some of my most reluctant language learners come alive when they get to move, speak, and interact during these lessons.
