Our middle school recently experienced a mold outbreak that damaged many of our classroom resources, including our class sets of novels. To rebuild, I’m requesting a set of books for a novel study of “Tangerine” by Edward Bloor for my 8th-grade ELA students. This novel offers a rich mix of themes, including perseverance, family dynamics, and self-discovery, which are especially meaningful for students navigating the transition to high school.
My students are a group of curious, resilient, and vibrant learners.
Despite the challenges they’ve faced with limited resources, they bring energy and creativity to our classroom every day. They are eager to connect with stories and characters that reflect their struggles and triumphs, and I believe Tangerine will spark both meaningful conversations and personal growth.
Having access to a class set of “Tangerine” will allow every student to fully engage in our novel study. These books will make it possible to dive into activities such as literature circles, guided reading sessions, and analytical discussions. Students will develop critical thinking, reading comprehension, and writing skills as they explore the novel's complex characters and themes. My primary goal is to provide my students with the opportunity to read, analyze, and connect with high-quality literature. By the end of the unit, I want my students to grow in their confidence as readers and writers and to find ways to relate the novel’s lessons to their own lives. Additionally, I hope this project inspires a love of reading that extends beyond the classroom.
Your support will make a lasting impact, empowering my students with the tools they need to succeed academically and personally. Thank you for considering our project!
