My Students

"Taking notes and sitting down are the best way to learn science," said no one ever. Science is all about the fun and hands-on labs!

My students are 7th and 8th grade scientists, who are prepared to learn life and physical science.

They come from high poverty and low income neighborhoods. Despite their economic disadvantages, they arrive to school on time and ready to learn; they come during their lunch time and after school to get help when needed. This is their first few years learning science in middle school and they are ready to work hard. They love science!

My Project

In the upcoming months, my students will be studying about density, which is the one unit that many kids struggle with. Students have trouble visualizing and understanding the concept of mass, volume, and density. By designing various hands-on labs, I wish to making this unit easier to understand. Our lab is in need of sixteen sturdy electronic balances, as we only have old triple beam balances from 10 years ago. To understand density, I wish to order a lab set of density cubes which are same-sized cubes made of different substances with vastly different densities. I wish to use these tools as manipulatives that will help students understand the difficult concepts. In addition, this year, I want my students to see liquid nitrogen in action! Being able to see the amazing effects of liquid nitrogen would be awesome and unforgettable!

Please help fund this project.

The project's resources are reusable, and will be preserved and used as lab tools every year. By contributing to the project, you will be helping make learning more interesting and hands-on, as science should always be!
