From “You’re Crazy!” to Calm: Help Fund My Continued Learning

My Project

When I introduced breathing exercises, meditations, and a singing bowl to my sixth-grade classroom, one student said, “You’re crazy, Mr. Baggaley.” A few months later, she came back and told me, “This stuff actually works. I feel peaceful now.”

That’s when I knew: I needed to take this further.

My students in Logan, Utah, are smart, resilient, and full of potential—but many are still recovering from the pandemic. Disrupted routines, excessive screen time, and home distractions left lasting effects on their focus, emotional regulation, and stress levels. As both a teacher and a father of four, I see how deeply they need tools to manage emotions and build resilience.

That’s why I enrolled in Breathe For Change, a program for educators that transformed my classroom—and my life. It helped me heal from burnout and gave my students new ways to cope, connect, and grow.

Now, I’m halfway to completing my Master’s in Social-Emotional Learning and Mindfulness. I’m seeking funding to finish this program, which includes: a Master’s in SEL, Mindfulness, and Yoga, Yoga Teacher Certification, and SEL Facilitator Training

With this certification, I’ll bring daily mindfulness practices to 54 students, offer free workshops for parents, and train fellow educators to build a schoolwide culture of wellness.

When teachers heal, students heal. With your help, I can give my students lifelong tools for calm, focus, and emotional strength—no matter their background.
