This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are - Mason Cooley. Have you ever picked up a book and gotten lost in the pages? That is what I want my students to experience every time they open a book.

My students are awesome and very diverse.

Some of my students come in reading at a kindergarten/first grade level, while others are reading at a fourth/fifth grade level. Because of the diversity of my students, we need the same diversity in our classroom library. I want to provide my students with rich and engaging reading material to help expand their vocabulary, world, and knowledge.

My Project

We have anywhere between 25-40 minutes of independent reading time a day. Adding more books to our library exposes my students to more genres that will hopefully instill a love of reading even with my most struggling readers. As our library grows, we need bookcases to organize them so students know exactly where to find their favorites to maximize their reading time.

Your donation will help my students become great readers and with that become life long learners.

It will help them expand their worlds beyond the north side of Chicago and hopefully inspire them to try something new or reach a goal they never thought possible.
