This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
For years now, I have wanted to join forces with my colleague and fellow high school teacher, Ms. Colon. I teach AP English Literature & Composition and sponsor the Book Club, while she teaches Theatre and sponsors the Drama Troupe. It felt like a match made in heaven, but timing was just never on our side. Until this year! Ms. Colon is planning to stage the play OUR TOWN by Thornton Wilder with her students, which I have always wanted to teach. Unfortunately, we do not have copies of this play in our school's bookroom and our population is largely low-income. And that is where you come in, dear reader...
By contributing to this project, you will provide our students with the opportunity to collaborate together and ultimately help them enhance their appreciation of both literature and the performing arts.
This cross-curriculum collaboration will hopefully be the first of many. We need your help to make this plan a reality. Any help is appreciated! I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from this beloved play:
“We all know that something is eternal. And it ain’t houses and it ain’t names, and it ain’t earth, and it ain’t even the stars . . . everybody knows in their bones that something is eternal, and that something has to do with human beings. All the greatest people ever lived have been telling us that for five thousand years and yet you’d be surprised how people are always losing hold of it. There’s something way down deep that’s eternal about every human being.”― Thornton Wilder, OUR TOWN
