My Project

Next year, I’ll be welcoming a new group of first-grade students who will be learning foundational skills that shape the rest of their academic journey. Many of my students come from low-income households and speak English as a second language, which means they benefit greatly from a classroom environment that is both structured and nurturing. After transitioning from teaching sixth grade to first grade mid-year, I quickly realized how essential the right materials are for this age group—and how few of them I had. To give my incoming students the best possible start, I’m requesting a classroom rug, privacy folders, and basic supplies that will support their comfort, focus, and daily learning.

A classroom rug and privacy folders will transform our learning environment.

The rug will create a welcoming, designated space where students can gather for phonics, read-aloud, and morning meetings, without having to sit on the hard floor. Privacy folders will promote focus and independence during writing and assessments. Items like dry erase boards, glue sticks, pencils, and erasers are daily tools in a first-grade classroom, especially for hands-on learning and building fine motor skills. With your support, I can create a classroom that is ready to meet the needs of young learners from day one—an environment that feels safe, comfortable, and full of possibility.
