This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are exploring one of the most important questions in science: How do living and nonliving systems capture and use energy from the Sun? In this hands-on investigation, students will compare how leaves use photosynthesis to store chemical energy with how solar panels convert light into electrical energy.

Using mini solar panels connected to tiny fans, light bulbs, and buzzers, students will measure how sunlight can be transformed into different forms of usable energy.

They’ll then connect these concepts to biology by examining how plants use chlorophyll to convert solar energy into glucose. By comparing energy transfer in plants and solar panels, students will see how science and engineering overlap — and how technology often mimics nature’s designs.
