My Project
Reading is fundamental. This is true for reading or understanding your finances. Financial literacy is an important concept that will help students be successful throughout their lives. The materials I requested will give my students the tools they need to learn about saving, investing, budgeting, and starting a business in a fun and developmentally appropriate way.
Educators know that understanding finances is a huge indicator of the overall success their students will have in life.
This project will give my students the resources they need to create a class store. In order to shop they will have to earn and save school dollars to purchase school supplies like pencils, markers, headphones, colored pencils, fidgets, mic covers, paper, glue sticks, and more. Students working in the store will use the cash register, ledger, and bags for transactions. The books in this project will teach kids about saving, investing, spending, and starting a business.
The new version of the Monopoly game will teach students about saving, spending, investing, and using an ATM or debit card. The glue gun will be used to create and attach store signage as well as to attach partitions to organize the store. Students will have the class store, as a choice time option to reinforce the lessons they learn on financial literacy. Some students will work in the store and others will be consumers. This project will focus on financial literacy while reinforcing skills in reading, writing, math, and computer science.
Despite their challenges, my students have a lot of ideas about money. They love to spend; however, they do not know a lot about how to manage money or create more money from it. These resources will make sure students know about many aspects of financial literacy and how they can begin applying these skills.
