This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse, first grade, integrated, collaborative teaching (ICT) class, with a combined mixture of general and special education students at a large, high-needs, Title One school in the north Bronx. Although the majority of students come from low-income homes or from homes with limited parental school-involvement, they are enthusiastic and truly come to school everyday, ready to learn. These children see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and strive daily to make me proud.

My class of first graders are some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Not only do several of them struggle with unstable home lives, but many cope with various disabilities such as ADHD, autism, and speech and language impairments. These kids inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

The life cycle of plants is easy to learn, and what better way to learn it than to witness it yourself? A terrarium is a miniature garden grown inside a covered glass or plastic container. The students can observe the plants they grew themselves go from seed, to root, to bud, and then create new seeds!

This is a standard life cycle that applies to other things as well, like humans and animals.

This hands-on project will allow my students to raise their awareness of the Earth and how important maintaining harmony is, while having tons of fun!
