This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hard-working, young people who come mainly from underrepresented backgrounds in maths and mathematical sciences. Yet, despite their backgrounds, they come to school and shine every day as they learn maths.

Discovering, applying, re-creating and modeling mathematics are just some of the activities my students perform in our classroom.

My students are not just working hard in mathematics, but they are learning to use technology efficiently, and in many instances, they are also learning English as a second or third language.

My Project

The rocket launchers and kits that we are requesting are tools that we will utilize to create rockets, launch them, and model with mathematics as we analyze the motion and pathway such rockets follow.

My students will create and launch rockets and record the data in order to motivate the discussion and the need for the concepts from our unit on quadratic functions.

We will use rockets, the launchers, and the parachutes as artifacts that once in motion will create a pathway for the one we could use quadratic functions as we find parameters that will link to the concept of projectile motion to that of quadratic functions.
